Time Line:
1929 - was born in Dunedin, New Zealand
1942 - went to North East Primary School
1958 - Married first wife, Mary Skiller
1961 - Studied Opthalmology
1965 - Did postgraduate work/moved to Australia/ became an associate professor
1965/1992 - Was chair of Opthalmology . Took care of the department of UNSW, Prince of Wales and Prince Henry hospital.
1980 - Married second wife, Gabi Hollows
1989 - Diagnosed with cancer
1992 - Travelled to Vietnam
1993 - Died
1994 - Fred Hollows Foundation was formed
Turning Points:
Growing up he always wanted to become a missionary. After doing some charity work he decided to dedicate his life to medical eye reasonss and enrolled himself into Otago Medical School
Achievements:
- 1990 - The title of Australian of the Year award.
- He received an Award for Aboriginal Eye Care
- Awarded the Human Rights Medal
- Advance Australia Award for MEdicine and Overseas Aid
- Awarded Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Science, Honoris Causa, UNSW
- Admitted as Doctor of Medicine Honories Causa at UNSW
- Named Eritica's first honorary citizen.
